New County Codes

By Treena Parish
Effective January 1, 2007 Pickens County building inspectors are enforcing the code requirement for guards on top of retaining walls.  The code states that all retaining walls that are more than 30” tall shall have a guard/guardrail not less than 36” in height.  This means we will be seeing more fence type structures in the Pickens side of Big Canoe.

Eddie, with the Pickens County inspectors, defines a guard as any structure that does not allow a 6” sphere to pass through.  The AECC is reviewing different type structures that will be allowable.  In the mean time, if you are faced with having to add a fence and have questions, please feel free to give me a call at 706-268-3394.

On a completely different note, please remember that all renovations and repairs must be painted to match the house.  This includes handrails and deck renovations.
