The POA Board has authorized the Task Force to solicit proposals for the renovation of the marina on Lake Petit.  Using preliminary guidelines developed by the task force, after consultation with property owners and contractors interested in the project, the Request for Proposal forms call for marina construction companies to help us design and plan the project, in the following order of tasks:

  1. Temporary relocation of the boats in the marina and along the shore.
  2. Dismantling and removal of the current docks.
  3. Dredging along the shores of the marina cove.
  4. Construction of a new seawall and walkway.
  5. Delivery and installation of the new docks.
  6. Cleaning up the site and returning all boats to their storage location.

The Task Force expects to have its final recommendations ready for the Board in early summer.  It is anticipated that the contracts can be awarded in the fall, with construction to begin in January 2008 and finished by the end of March.

In closing we want to thank all the Big Canoe property owners who have made important suggestions as this project moves forward.  We intend to involve property owners again, later this spring, as the proposed designs are submitted and the final plans are made.

This point has been made before, but it is important enough to bear repeating.  The Lakes of Big Canoe and the Marina are valuable assets to the entire community, and we are committed to planning and building a facility that we will all be proud of.
